At times I've found myself in my doctor's waiting room with my sunglasses on – seemingly protecting myself from the eyes of others. Sometimes I even wear them at night or inside a mall. Medication can help anxiety, but for me, it's limited.
Appointments and obligations are difficult. Looking at the calendar and seeing that I have to be somewhere at a certain time can really stress me out. I often end up cancelling appointments because I can't deal with people that day.
Social anxiety can cripple your life. Even the telephone can be an unwanted intrusion. Sometimes, even with family, I have to remove myself from the group and seek refuge in a quiet corner. I'm grateful for social media. I'm much more comfortable alone.
